Part: 2 : Ruthie foster - the phenomenal ruthie foster (blue corn music - 2007)
Ruthie Foster - The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster (Blue Corn Music - 2007) Flac | EAC Extract | Cue-Log | 16 bit 44.1kHz | 268 MB | Covers Ruthie Foster's the newest voice in old-school soul. Her fifth album is a remarkable flashback to the genre's '60s and '70s heyday, framing her warm butter-and-cayenne-pepper singing with organ, electric piano, shimmering guitar textures, and strong backbeats. That sound, along with her strength as a song interpreter rippling with beauty on Lucinda Williams's "Fruits of My Labor," stunningly emotional on Son House's cautionary Delta spiritual "People Grinnin' in Your Face" and her fine-tuned social politics, makes Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, and Nina Simone reasonable artistic references. For the 42-year-old Texan, this historic approach is new. Until now she's been an obscure acoustic-guitar-wielding singer-songwriter. And, indeed, the evocative lyricism of her own tunes "Harder Than the Fall," "Heal Yourself," and "Beaver Creek Blues" i! s clearly the work of an experienced craftsperson. But the performances on this elegant album, made under the tutelage of imaginative and empathetic Austin-based producer Malcolm Welbourne, live up to its boastful title, and seem destined to bring Foster the larger audience she deserves. 2 meter sessies started back in april 1987, it was broadcasted mainly on
Dutch radio, but there also was a TV-version most of the time. In the past
years over a 1,000 sessions were recorded. Among the artists were Counting
Crows, Radiohead, Epica, REM, Bush, Anouk, Crowded House, Venice,
Coldplay, K's Choice, Joe Cocker and Blind Melon.

Main man behind the idea of '2 meter sessies' is Jan Douwe Kroeske. He
started with the idea back in 1987 and is still going strong. The idea is quite
simple. You invite an artist to the studio and have him/her record an acoustic
session (mind you: MTV started with their famous unplugged sessions in
1989). And the name... well, Jan Douwe's length is about 2 meters, so that's
easy to explain.

In total 10 volumes with compilations of the 2 meter sessies have been
published on cd. And there are two double-discs with highlights. I hope you're
gonna enjoy them as much as I do.

The typical adjectives used to describe singer songwriters don't really apply to
Patrick Park. The contemplativeness and over analysis that are so often behind
the heady brand of music Park proffers doesn't appear in his creative process.
Indeed, his decisiveness is rare, if not unprecedented, in so introspective an
artist. He doesn't agonize over his music; he just makes it. He doesn't purr out
the lyrics; he sings them in full voice, putting everything he's got into every
line. Park's verbal precision recalls Leonard Cohen, his forcefulness rivals
that of Neil Young and the Dylan of "Positively 4th Street." His songs teem with
dramatic tension, vivid character sketches and fitful visions of inner turmoil.
Not surprisingly, Park declines to reveal the specifics of his lyrics. "The most
beautiful and magical thing any song has to offer, is how it affects the
listener, how they relate it to their own life," he explains. "I also don't know
that I would want to open myself up that much and actually say what these songs
are about. It's hard enough to put them out there sometimes. All of them were
written with the hope that there would be a better day. I don't know if that
comes across or not."

The Colorado native grew up outside of Denver surrounded by words and music: his
mother is a published poet, his father had a deep love of the folk and blues
traditions and played songs on the guitar around the house, which rubbed off on
Patrick at an early age. "I've written songs since I was a kid," he says. "There
was nothing else that I really wanted to do—I was obsessed with it. When I first
started writing songs, I would show my dad and he would say, 'That's great, but
it's not a song.' He pushed me in some ways. My mother definitely had an
influence—appreciating the power of words. I started playing in bands when I was
in junior high school, and more than any musical achievement, it made me excited
about doing it. I pretty much decided at the age of 13 or 14 that this was what
I wanted to do."

Park came to Los Angeles in 1999 and worked odd jobs, including a stint as a
stock boy at hipster clothing store American Rag. "That job was actually good
for me because I was alone in the stockroom all day long; I had a lot of time to
think, and I wrote a lot of songs back there."

In 2000, when Park had a batch of songs, he decided to demo them. He lacked the
money to go into a studio, but that didn't deter him: "I ended up recording in
the back of a store that a friend's girlfriend owned. I sang all the vocals on
my knees inside of this couch-cushion hut that we built because there was a
cricket in the room and it kept bleeding into the microphone. It was August and
it was hot and horrible." Later that year, Patrick had a chance run in with
producer Dave Trumfio (Wilco, OK GO, Earlimart) and was able to give him a copy
of what came to be known as the "basement tapes". " I didn't expect to ever hear
from him again, but he called me the next day and asked if I had any more
songs."

With the album under way, Park began playing solo shows in LA, and the local
press immediately reacted. His fellow artists took notice as well, as he opened
shows for the likes of Richard Buckner, Gomez and Alfie, while Beth Orton
handpicked Park as the supporting act on her 2002 U.S. tour. Hollywood Records
also took notice, and signed Patrick.

Park released 'Loneliness Knows My Name' in 2004 and immediately hit the road,
touring with David Grey, Liz Phair, The Polyphonic Spree, The Thrills, My
Morning Jacket, Granddaddy and more. As the album drew praise from critics,
Patrick won over crowds show by show with his intimate, nuanced live
performance. Recently, Patrick has returned home to LA and has been spending his
time writing his next album. The follow up to Loneliness Knows My Name will be
released on Curb Appeal Records this summer…

New solo effort and first full-length full band recording by Bob Nanna
(Braid/Hey Mercedes) as The City On Film. A very wide range of influences and
styles documented on this long-player ranging from alt-country, soulful R & B
inspired acoustic, to straight forward rock via his previous work with Hey
Mercedes. Keyboard accents, cello, and beautiful vocal delivery matched with
Bobs' amazing lyrics, fantastic production, and an all-around stellar
musicianship make this a must have. For fans of Elliott Smith, Small Factory,
and Hey Mercedes.

New Alkaline Trio album, five weeks in advance and
because it's from FNT you know this time it's real.
Notice the difference! Unfortunately i dont have a scanner,
so i cant provide scans - the sound quality says it all tho.
Of course it rocks so don't be cheap, support the
band and buy it when it comes out on May 13. Now
enjoy!

Release Notes:

Dropkick Murphys formed in 1996 in Boston, MA. The band was originally just a
bunch of friends looking to play music for fun. We started playing in the
basement of a friend's barbershop and our goal was to blend the musical
influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock, and Hardcore) into
one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out of tune mix that we could call our
own.

To our surprise people seemed to liked it and we began to record music and tour
constantly. To date we have released over ten singles, two EP CD, and four Full
Length albums and have had the good fortune of being able to play across a large
portion of the world. We are truly grateful to the many friends and bands that
have helped us out and supported us along the way in the US, Canada, Europe,
U.K. Ireland, Scandinavia, and Australia as well as the many countries we look
forward to playing in the next century.

The bands' main goal is to play music that creates an all for one, one for all
environment where everyone is encouraged to participate, sing along, and
hopefully have a good time. In the true spirit of punk rock we view the band and
the audience as one in the same; in other words our stage and our microphone are
yours.

In addition to hopefully bringing people together for a good time, we hope to
share some of our experiences and beliefs in working class solidarity,
friendship, loyalty and self- improvement as a means to bettering society (i.e.
You can preach till you're blue in the face but if you're lying in the gutter no
one's gonna listen. If you pick yourself up by the bootstraps and live your life
to the best of your ability you may set an example that others will follow).

Part: 2 : Watermelon slim & the workers - no paid holidays
Watermelon Slim & The Workers - No Paid Holidays WavPack (cue+log+covers) | 320 Mb | RS Released: 2008 | Label: Northern Blues (NBM0047) | Genre: Contemporary Country Blues "Watermelon Slim has a fresh contemporary vision of country blues, a personal one that still allows listeners to feel right at home, and while he hasn't varied his approach too much over the course of his past couple of albums (No Paid Holidays is his third release for Northern Blues), what he does fits and works so well that that's undoubtedly a good thing. Here he hits his usual touchstones, pounding out a couple of full-tilt blues-rockers, shining on slide guitar, stripping things down on occasion for one of his unique "hollers." There aren't really any surprises, but again, that's fine. Well, actually, hearing Slim's stripped-down harmonica version of Laura Nyro's "And When I Die" is a bit of a surprise, and a delight at that. Also a delight is the slide guitar bonanza of "Bubba's Blues," which fea! tures guest slide guitarist Lee Roy Parnell and Slim tearing the rafters down. Slim's sharp narrative sense emerges on "Max the Baseball Clown," which conjures long-ago boyhood summers while the opener, "Blues for Howard," contains the remarkable line "You can't stay neutral on a moving train." The blues is such a conservative genre in so many ways, depending on familiar progressions and purposely cliched sentiment to convey universal emotions. Watermelon Slim manages to work within that framework and still somehow make it all seem hushed and personal, even intimate. It's not an easy line to walk, but he does it as well as anyone currently on the contemporary blues scene. No Paid Holidays may not cut into any new territory, but it doesn't really have to because what this guy does is wonderfully solid right where it is. Steve Leggett (AMG)"
