RELEASE NOTES:
Calamity Drenching is McCarthy Trenching's second release on Team Love, the
follow up to last years fantastic self titled compilation. It made sense for
that record to cover a lot of ground, as it was mostly a mash-up of some older
songs from 2003 and 2006, while Calamity Drenching feels slightly more cohesive
as an album. Dan McCarthy writes some of the saddest songs to smile to, and this
time there is a bit more focus on piano driven songs, especially opener 'To an
Aesthete Dying Young', which does a great job foreshadowing what eventually ends
up being a perfectly cozy CD to spin in your car when it's ultimately way below
freezing outside after a night of near-blizzard conditions and your fucking car
won't start and even if it did you'd probably have a hell of a time getting to
work anyway. If you've seen the Trench very much over the past year or so then
you'll be familiar with a lot of these songs, and the recorded versions sound
pretty much like what you've heard, no "studio trickery" or anything fancy, just
a guy and his friends playing some of the best americana music you'll find
today, and I don't mean in Omaha, I mean period.
