"Them Dirty Blues," which is CANNONBALL ADDERLEY's name for the deep-down number that closes this LP, is also a completely apt and highly descriptive title for this second album by Adderley's sensational quintet. For the soulful spirit of the blues—the real, low, wonderfully emotion-stirring, and downright dirty blues that has always been and always will be the bedrock of jazz—is the basic message of this group. Which is certainly one important reason for the breathtaking surge of popular approval that carried the band, within a few short months after its formation in mid-1959, to a position well up in the front ranks of current jazz.Allmusic.com:
Recorded in early 1960, Them Dirty Blues contains two classic jazz compositions: Nat Adderley's "Work Song" and Bobby Timmons' "Dat Dere," the sequel to "This Here." This was alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley's second quintet with brother Nat Adderley (cornet), and features Bobby Timmons on piano (who plays on four tracks and was replaced by Barry Harris on the remaining five), Sam Jones on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. Them Dirty Blues was originally released on Riverside until Adderley made the switch to Capitol where he brought several master tapes with him, including these sessions. The CD reissue contains an alternate version each of "Work Song" and "Dat Dere."

A pleasant date recorded in late 1962 with South American musicians the Bossa Rio Sextet of Brazil. Cannonball is heard alongside Sergio Mendes on piano, future Weather Report percussionist Dom Um Romao, and featured on five cuts is Paulo Moura on alto saxophone with Pedro Paulo on trumpet. Unfortunately this release contains little fire, as Adderley didn't get much rehearsal time with these musicians. Combined with the repetitious nature of the Bossa Nova these proceedings can get tedious. This session was originally released on Riverside, but Adderley took several master tapes (including this one) when he made his move to Capitol.
Amazon:
Florida-born alto saxophonist Julian Cannonball Adderley distinguished himself as a member of Miles Davis's groups (he's the sultry alto on Kind of Blue) and with the hard-bop ensembles he co-led with his cornet-playing brother Nat. This recording, produced by Orrin Keepnews in 1963 for the Riverside label, features Adderley performing bossa nova-based compositions. Anchored by Brazilian composer and pianist Sergio Mendes's band (with alto saxophonist Paulo Moura), Adderley's singing sax lines float over the sunny Rio rhythms, owing more to Benny Carter than Charlie Parker. The renditions of Antonio Carlos Jobim's standards "Corcovado" and "Once I Loved" and Joao Donato's "Minha Saudades" are comparable to Stan Getz's Legendary records from the same period, showing anew that jazz and South American music have learned much from each other. This 1962 project marked the American recording debut of Brazilian masters Sergi! o Mendes and Dom Um Romao in a program of great jazz-inflected sambas by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Donato and others. Includes two alternate takes.

For this CD reissue of a Riverside date, altoist Cannonball Adderley's 1961 Quintet (which includes cornetist Nat Adderley, pianist Victor Feldman, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes) is joined by guest pianist Wynton Kelly on five of the eight selections, during which Feldman switches quite effectively to vibes. The music falls between funky soul-jazz and hard bop, and each of the performances (particularly "Star Eyes" and "Well You Needn't") is enjoyable. The CD adds a new alternate take of "Lisa" and the previously unissued "O.P." to the original program.Amazon reviewer:
If you like Cannonball you'll love this CD. It features the quintet that made the superb (and sadly unattainable) At the Lighthouse album. But the great thing about Plus is that the recording quality is absolutely superb so what you lose in live atmosphere you gain in excellent sound - Cannon's alto never sounded better. Every track is strong with some great melodic material and strong solos. I have about 12 of his albums and I rate this one of the best.
Cannonball-adderley.com:
About one year, six months and twenty-three days before the date of this particular recording, the CANNONBALL ADDERLEY Quintet produced twelve minutes and twenty-six seconds of musical explosiveness entitled This Here. As we all know, the stir that followed was considerable. A hit record, a great swing over to "soul" music (a type of music that Ben Webster's been playing for thirty years without knowing it!), and a great new wave of popularity for Julian Adderley and his group.Actually, though, we bystanders shouldn't have been too surprised by all this. The large gentleman from Florida has been roaring through the music business saying "You know what I mean ?" and showing us what he meant ever since that notable mid-1950s evening in New York when, as an unknown, he strode upon the bandstand at the Cafe Bohemia and proceeded to blow the walls down. Cannon had brought real freshness to the scene then, brought it again with his recording of This Her! e, did it once again with his subsequent efforts in the area of big-band music (African Waltz, etc.) and, I am convinced, has done so yet another time with the recording contained in this jacket.Ever since the recording of Bobby Timmons' This Here, Cannonball has been deeply associated with the "soul" aspect of jazz : music that is rustic in design, semi-religious in flavor, heavily rooted in the blues. With this album, I feel, Cannon shows us yet another aspect of the Adderley emotional tract. The "soul" is still decidedly there, but these tracks seem to indicate that some attractive new seasonings have been added to the boiling pot, the end result being Adderley music that's just a little happier, a little lighter, a little more humorous than before. If this is possible! I think that after hearing the group on old standbys like Well You Needn't and Star Eyes, and on Victor Feldman and Torrie Zito's intriguing Lisa, you'll understand! exactly what I mean, and that you'll agree with me.This, ! to me, i s certainly one excellent reason for the " Plus" in the album title. But since, of course, I hadn't yet heard the music when I was first asked to write these notes, I found that word fairly mysterious. When I asked Orrin Keepnews of Riverside, he allowed as how there were several reasons for it. Aside from the obvious fact that, on the album, Wynton Kelly was added to the group (and in addition to the just-noted musical reason I found on listening to the record), he brought up another interesting point. This album was recorded just after the group returned from a lengthy and highly-successful European tour. Thus you are hearing musicians fresh from a steady stint of playing together night after night, playing these tunes, molded and jelled into a tightly-knit creative organization. Lines fresh in their minds, a strong feeling for the tunes and for each other-this is definitely a plus factor for any musical organization. With regard to the aforementioned Wynton K! elly "plus"-the addition of Kelly (who happens to be a close musical and personal friend of virtually all involved here) allows us to hear, in addition to the remarkable Mr. Kelly himself, the full instrumentation of the Adderley Quintet plus Victor Feldman's tasty vibes. When the horns drop out on portions of tunes, the remaining rhythm quartet is delightfully-forceful. (One friend of mine described it as "sort a like a hairy Modern Jazz Quartet"- with no offense intended, I'm sure.) As for the full group: Cannon excites you with every key on his axe; Nat plays better than ever before (as he seems to have been doing each time out for quite a while now) ; Wynton is zestfully melodic, as ever; Vic makes the transition from instrument to instrument beautifully; Louis Hayes' fine taste shines through like the guiding light that it is; and Sam Jones walks on, twelve feet tall.Arriving Soon, the album-opener, is a new Eddie "Cleanhead" V! inson original. The blues-singer and altoist had been off the ! scene fo r a few years, but Cannon ran across him in Kansas City and extracted a few choice numbers from him, including this haunting theme. (I don't know about the state of Your pictorial imagination, but during Cannon's dramatic opening statement I can see John Cassavetes staring from a West 67th Street rooftop.) New Delhi is a Vic Feldman tune with a beautiful melody line, excellent vibes, and prettily-muted work by Nat. Lisa, recorded before by Feldman on his own Riverside album, "Merry Olde Soul" (RLP 866; Sterec 9866), is given slightly faster treatment this time, which seems to make Lisa a more exciting and sinister chick ; and Cannon tells the tale beautifully. Thelonious Monk' Well You Needn't is taken at a brisk clip, lends itself to this rather rollicking treatment, and displays an impressive feeling of band unity. The Brothers Adderley are exceptionally moving on Star Eyes where, after an opening Latin vamp, Cannonball almost explodes into the me! lody, leading Nat into the soaring release. Winetone, a blues line by Kelly, draws its title from Chicago disc jockey Daddy-o Daylie's special pronunciation of the composer's name. The date's only unfamiliar tune for the group - actually, Wynton worked it up in the studio - it comes off in a way that suggests that, when things are feeling right and going right, both total spontaneity and pre-set organization are likely to be equally effective. There is little more to say. Whether you be a deep dyed fan or not ,I think you'll really like this album. The Adderley excitement is there , the Adderley "soul" is there , and then there's that new something-else -that Cannonball Adderley Quintet PLUS factor. You know what I mean ?Personnel:

Although this is a one time studio blowing session, things obviously gelled quickly for everyone as they got underway on this 1962 recording by Red Garland, which features both Blue Mitchell and Pepper Adams in prominent supporting roles. The pianist gets things off on the right foot with his relaxed blues "Red's Good Groove," while Mitchell, who had already recorded a number of dates as a leader himself, delivers a confident yet understated trumpet solo. Baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams contributed the oddly named "Excerent!" (a title which somewhat puzzled the original liner note writer Peter Drew but likely refers to the tendency of some Orientals to substitute the letter "r" for "l," long before such humor would be considered politically incorrect and unlikely to appear on a CD jacket), it's a hard bop tune that isn't the least bit reminiscent of the Far East. The core of the date consists of several standards, conclud! ing with a driving take of "Falling in Love With Love." Bassist Sam Jones and drummer Philly Joe Jones supply the fluid rhythm that powers the quintet throughout this very enjoyable session.Personnel:

Of the miles of Red Garland sessions recorded in the late '50s, some of the tapes didn't see the light of day until many years later. This session, except for "Crazy Rhythm," first appeared in the early '70s, and is typical of Garland's trio work of the '50s, evoking a mid-century nightclub atmosphere from Rudy Van Gelder's studio with the perfectly gauged help of bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor. "Since I Fell for You" and "Teach Me Tonight" are taken at relaxed tempos, and after Garland's trademark block chords in the left hand and octaves in the right hand take care of the themes, they ride easily and winningly. "Crazy Rhythm" zips along at the usual steeplechase pace, with a fluid bebop solo from Garland and some agile bowing from Chambers (Chambers also gets an unusually lengthy bowed solo on "This Can't Be Love"), and the title track closes the CD reissue on a jaunty note. Gar! land fans -- and for that matter, fans of Vince Guaraldi, whose chord voicings very much resemble those of Garland -- need not hesitate.Amazon.com reviewer:
This seems to be one of the lesser known Red Garland Trio efforts, and whether you already like Red or don't know his work yet, this recording is WELL worth getting to know. If you dig Miles and Trane, you may know Red without knowing his name, but you've probably remarked, quietly backing up the frontmen, a piano player with a distinctive touch that gives his piano an almost bell-like tone. That'd Red Garland. Red's piano is pure sugar, and very well complimented by Paul Chambers bass-- often bowed so well that it begins to sound like a human voice singing. This in one of those records that'll become an old friend, taking up permanent residence in your CD player.

Freddie Hubbard's first recording as a leader, Open Sesame features the 22-year-old trumpeter in a quintet with tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, the up-and-coming pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Clifford Jarvis. This set shows that even at this early stage, Hubbard had the potential to be one of the greats. On the ballad "But Beautiful" he shows maturity; other highlights include "Open Sesame," a driving "All or Nothing at All" and "One Mint Julep." It's an impressive start to what would be a very interesting career.Amazon.com:
Recorded in 1960, Freddie Hubbard's Open Sesame is not only a very good CD: it dramatizes history in the making. The trumpeter was not unknown then, but he was still in his early years; so was pianist McCoy Tyner, for whom a momentous association with John Coltrane was just around the corner. Indeed, the best-known musician at the time of this recording was bassist Sam Jones, and while he went on to bigger things with Cannonball Adderley and then Oscar Peterson, it was Hubbard and Tyner who would emerge as unambiguously major figures. That by rights should also have characterized tenorist Tina Brooks, but this superb player (his work on "But Beautiful" here is exquisite) never got the recognition he deserved, dying almost forgotten in 1974 at the age of 42. Further highlights include the leader's "Hub's Nub" and the two takes apiece of the title track and "Gypsy Blue," both excellent compositions by Brooks. Mention should also be mad! e of drummer Clifford Jarvis, a young lion steeped in Blakey, and Rudy Van Gelder's predictably flawless engineering.

Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard really came into his own during this Blue Note session. He is matched with quite an all-star group (tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Art Davis, and drummer Elvin Jones in addition to Bernard McKinney on euphonium), introduces two of his finest compositions ("Birdlike" and "Crisis"), and is quite lyrical on his ballad feature, "Weaver of Dreams." Hubbard's sidemen all play up to par and this memorable session is highly recommended; it's one of the trumpeter's most rewarding Blue Note albums.Amazon reviewer:
If you're not a fan of Freddie Hubbard, pick up "Ready for Freddie" and it will likely turn you into one. Armed with skilled players such as Wayne Shorter on sax, Bernard McKinney on euphonium, Elvin Jones on drums and McCoy Tyner on piano, Hubbard's 1961 release (recorded when he was barely in his twenties!) flirts with brilliance and drips with class from track to track. The opener, "Arietis," is classic Hubbard in great form, and he's well complimented by Jones' brisk drumming and Davis's bass. Other standouts include "Marie Antoinette," which has Hubbard and Shorter holding their own respectably, while "Crisis" shows great interplay between all members, with Jones and Davis making particularly strong impressions. Like all jazz greats, Hubbard is careful not to hog the spotlight and gives each musician his moment to shine. "Ready For Freddie" has been digitally remastered on Blue Note by Rudy Van Gelder! and features an alternative take of "Arietis" and "Marie Antoinette." It's a near-flawless effort that will find a welcome home in virtually any collection.

Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard teams up on record with James Spaulding (who doubles on alto and flute) for the first time on this excellent set, with the assistance of pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Reggie Workman, and drummer Clifford Jarvis. The quintet performs four of the trumpeter's originals (including "Lament for Booker" and the title cut) plus an advanced version of the standard "You're My Everything." John Coltrane's modal music was starting to influence Hubbard's conception and his own playing was pushing the modern mainstream ahead without really entering the avant-garde.
Cduniverse.com:
Freddie Hubbard's HUB-TONES, a consummate Blue Note date from the early '60s, is the trumpeter's most highly acclaimed disc. Hubbard fronts a standard quintet here, with fine support from James Spaulding, Herbie Hancock, Reggie Workman, and Clifford Jarvis. The trumpeter's style is more clearly defined than on past efforts with a signature approach that Hubbard would continue throughout the remainder of the hard bop era. Indeed, this particular session signaled Hubbard's arrival as one of the giants of the trumpet and a leader of modern jazz.Significantly, HUB-TONES establishes Hubbard as a masterful composer as well as an interpreter of standards. The opening "You're My Everything" is one of the latter, but the remainder of the cuts are Hubbard's. The lightly swinging "Prophet Jennings" features a muted melody accompanied by Spaulding's delicate flute. The classic title track, presented here in two takes, is the disc's highlight; a raucou! s, machine gun-like head that opens up into a burning solo session featuring stunning work by all. The moving "Lament For Booker" follows, showcasing Hubbard's velvety ballad style with tasteful support from Spaulding and Hancock. Freddie Hubbard brought a beautiful tone and an instinct for swing to Hub Cap. This record came out in 1961, three years before Eric Dolphy's Out To Lunch and four years before Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage : two significant titles in the library of America's improvised music which feature a consequential role by Hubbard.
Freddie Hubbard leads a particularly talented sextet on this reissue. Four of the six compositions are Hubbard originals; two numbers were composed by Cedar Walton, and the marvelous "Cry Me Not" was penned by Randy Weston. The title track opens the disc, showing off Hubbard's flexibility and range in hard bop terrain. The pace shifts when the group leads into the modal ballad "Cry Not For Me," where Freddie Hubbard delivers some beautiful triplet lines in his solos. This number bears repeated listening.
This long-awaited CD from Freddie Hubbard's discography deserves your attention and makes a fine addition to your collection.Allmusic.com:
On Hub Cap, his third effort as a leader, Freddie Hubbard sticks to the tried-and-true hard bop formula, which is something of a mixed blessing. There's no question that much of this music is enjoyable, but it's not quite up to the standards of its two predecessors. Part of the problem is Hubbard's sextet, which features tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, trombonist Julian Priester, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Larry Ridley, and drummer "Philly" Joe Jones. All of the musicians are talented, but only a few are inventive, and that becomes a problem, since it becomes clear that Hubbard is beginning to break free from his influences and develop his own style. In other words, he's capable of more adventurous music than this straight-ahead hard bop. That said, Hub Cap is a very good hard bop date. There is energy to the performances, and the artist's vigorous, inspired playing continues to impress, as do some of his original compositions. Only when compa! red to Hubbard's first two records, or what would come later, does Hub Cap seem like a lesser effort.Personnel:

In 1996, Fran Healy borrowed 600 from his mum to pay for the recording of
Travis's very fi rst single. That track, the rousingly self-descriptive All I
Want To Do Is Rock, was released on the band's own label, Red Telephone Box,
with a sleeve designed by Healy. Only 750 copies were
made, but that was enough to kick-start a career for the four Glaswegian pals
which has since reaped numerous hit singles, awards, platinum-selling albums and
festival headline slots. Famous Now, twelve years on, the band have made 'Ode To
J Smith', their loudest, edgiest and most arresting record since that formative
track. Fittingly, they're revived Red Telephone Box to release it, with Healy
once again handling artwork duties. The big difference this time is that, having
shifted ten million albums in the intervening period, Mrs Healy's funding was
not required.

Tracks 1 to 5 (CD 1): original LP issue Tijuana Moods
Original album produced by: Bob Rolontz
Original album recording engineer: Bob SimpsonDigitally remastered from original master tapes in 24-bit by: Jean-Pierre Chalbos (La Source Mastering, Paris, France)"This is the best record I ever made"Recorded in 1957, Tijuana Moods was initially released five years later in 1962. It was written during a very blue period in Mingus' life. He was separated from his wife Celia, so he made his first trip to Tijuana, Baja California with Dannie Richmond in hopes of forgetting her. It didn't work, but ever the artist Mingus "decided to benefit musically" by recreating his border town experiences.
"Dizzy Moods" was influenced by Gillespie's "Woody 'n' You," sketched out on the drive down. The horns have a full, warm sound, a perfect match for heading southbound on the freeway during the late afternoon as the sun begins its descent into the Pacific. The windows are down, and the summer air feels good on your skin.
Walking the streets of Tijuana, the castanets and female vocals call out. Enter a dimly lit club, cervezas y tequila are brought to the table, and witness "Ysabel's Table Dance." Mingus explains, "spots in the music played by the piano represent the scantily clad woman spinning from table to table." The Latin influences disappear about four minutes in. The jazz swings behind Shafi Hadi's sax. These are sounds of home, the big city. Mingus still remembers what he wants to forget. The sax somberly solos and the bass returns the Latin rhythms underneath, before the number swings again. Ysabel returns to the forefront, dancing up a storm. Mingus' thoughts continue drifting back and forth, home and here.
While the music is very good and enjoyable, I don't get what Mingus was going for in "Tijuana Gift Shop." I have been in them, but don't hear the connection. It's a brief visit before we are back on the streets and encountering "Los Mariachis," street musicians who entertain the tourists. They play different music for different people, hoping to pick the correct song that will maximize their tips. For Mingus, it keeps coming back to the blues this evening. He can be occasionally heard shouting about his woman in the background.
Anderson & Grouya's "Flamingo" returns Mingus to the city. The striking of the triangle announces a new day dawning, but are you ready to face it. A battle takes place: the grogginess combined from drinking to repair a heart and a night's slumber against the slow-brightening sky alongside the city's hustle and bustle. The song's end reveals the winner.
Recorded during these sessions is the bonus track "A Colloquial Dream (Scenes In The City)," previously issued on the 2001 version of this album. Lonnie Elder recites this wild, Beat poem put to jazz music about a love for jazz music. Even though times get rough with the landlady looking for the rent and everything being hock, the love of jazz keeps the narrator going. Bird, Miles, and Monk make it into the dream. The song doesn't fit the album's Tijuana mood, but it's a cool piece nonetheless.
In the liner notes, Mingus wrote, "Tijuana Moods is the best record I ever made," and "I believe this record includes performances by some of the greatest musicians I have ever worked with." Far be it from me to argue with the man. It's a great album no matter what your mood.Disc: 1Dizzy Moods

Review by Bruce Eder (AMG)

This eight-CD set should be a part of any collection that presumes to take
American music -- not just rock & roll or rhythm & blues -- seriously. Atlantic
Records was one of dozens of independent labels started up after the war by
neophyte executives and producers, but it was different from most of the
others in that the guys who ran it were honest and genuinely loved music.
Coupled with a lot of luck and some good judgment, the results trace a good
chunk of the history of American music and popular culture. Disc one opens
with cuts which slot in somewhere midway between jazz, bop, and "race"
music (as the term was used then). Disc two is pure, distilled R&B, the stuff
filling the airwaves of black radio and the jukeboxes in the "wrong" parts of
town in 1952-54. Surprisingly, the material on Disc three, covering 1955-57,
isn't very different in content or character from Disc two, despite the fact
that it covers the period when white teenagers were starting to listen to and
buy these records in large numbers. It's only with Disc four that one sees the
consequences of the late '50s -- Ray Charles in his final days with the label,
juxtaposed with the Drifters in their post-1958 incarnation and the start of
the company's relationship with Stax/Volt Records. Disc six (1965-67) is
practically a mini-tribute to Stax/Volt, filled with the best-known sides of Eddie
Floyd, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and Booker T. & the MG's. Discs seven and
eight run from the late '60s and the heyday of Aretha Franklin to some great
early-'70s soul, including Roberta Flack and the Spinners.

Freddie Hubbard (trumpet) and Wayne Shorter (saxophone) are joined by Curtis Fuller's trombone to expand Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers to a sextet for MOSAIC. The result is a huge sound that is powerfully propelled by Blakey's forceful drumming. The deep, soulful grooves here support complex ensemble arrangements with concise solo spots for the horns and pianist Cedar Walton. In all, this is classic '60s era Messengers in their prime. Although Shorter was the group's musical director and chief contributor of new material during his tenure, Hubbard, Walton and Fuller each offer excellent compositions on this outing. Walton's boisterous "Mosaic" gets the opening slot and is a quintessential Messengers number. Blakey's trademark shuffle groove highlights Hubbard's gospel-flavored "Down Under" before the sextet gears up for Shorter's masterful "[CENSORED]ren Of The Night," one of his most dynamic compositions that ! gets a spirited reading here. Fuller's minor "Arabia" is a hard swinging track that captures the Middle Eastern flavor of its namesake. Finally, Hubbard's intricate "Crisis" is a stunning arrangement that offers alternating passages of reflective horn harmonies and banging accents for a hard bopping grand finale.AMG:
This is the one that started it: Mosaic, recorded in 1961, was the first recording of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers as a quintet, a setting he kept from 1961-1964. The band's front line was trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, trombonist Curtis Fuller, and tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter; Cedar Walton played piano and Jymie Merritt (a criminally underappreciated talent) was the bassist. Everything on this set was written by the musicians in the band. Walton wrote the burning title track; its blazing tempo and Eastern modes were uncharacteristic of the Jazz Messengers sound, but it swings like mad. Hubbard contributed two pieces to the album, the first of which is the groover "Down Under," with its blues gospel feel. The bandmembers dig their teeth into this one, carrying the blues theme to the breaking point as Hubbard fills in between. But the horn charts are so sharp, so utterly devoid of excess, that they won't let the listener go. Shorter's "[CENSORED! ]ren of the Night" is a fine example of the tunes he would compose for the Miles Davis Quintet a bit later. While it's a hard bop swinger to be sure, his use of modality and counterpoint between the soloist and the front line is exemplary and his solo bites hard and fast as he tears up and down the registers of the horn. Fuller's "Arabia" is a basic blues groover, and the playing is inspired throughout. The disc closes with Hubbard's "Crisis," which opens with Merritt and Blakey ushering in the rest of the band. Walton first plays a repetitive minor-key riff. When the horns enter, Walton keeps the theme, Merritt moves over a bit to dig in between the lines, and Blakey keeps it all anchored because in this tune rhythm is everything. Hubbard was in many ways a soul-jazz composer before there was such a thing, and the motifs in this tune prove it — as does his beautiful blowing in his solo. This is a fine recording and should be owned by ! any Blakey fan. The Rudy Van Gelder reissue came out in 2006 a! nd, amaz ingly, features no bonus material. Recorded in one day in October of 1960, the band recorded nothing extra — and there were no alternate takes! The sound, as on all the Van Gelder reissues, is painstakingly wonderful.
