Miles Davis Quintet With John Coltrane - In Copenhagen 1960 (1960) MP3 | 320kbps | 130mb | RS.com | Cover | 5% File Recovery Genre: Jazz / cool, hard bop Great live material from one of the most important pairings in modern jazz -- recorded during the last months that John Coltrane was working with the Miles Davis Quintet! Davis and Coltrane are working here on a live date from Copenhagen in March of 1960 -- playing on 3 long tunes that really let both players open up and unfold in their own unique solo explorations. Titles are all familiar ones from the Davis book -- "So What", "All Blues", and "On Green Dolphin Street" -- but the extended renditions offer more than a few surprises that make them well worth having. Plus, added to these is one more additional track from 1963 -- featuring George Coleman on tenor instead of Coltrane, plus Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams -- playing "Milestones" on a live date in Juan-les-Pins.

Besides an astonishing mix of various styles and instruments, this show is a good proof that even Chicago based Blues music, isn´t necessarily mostly sad and full of sorrow!

Jackie McLean - Bluesnik (1961) MP3 ~ 320Kbps ~ RS.com ~ 128mb ~ Covers & Scans Genre: Jazz / post-bop, hard bop Original Release Date: January 8, 1961 Time: 53:15 Label: Blue Note AMG: This is one of the most accessible of altoist Jackie McLean's Blue Note sessions, for the six songs, which have been augmented on this CD reissue by "new" alternate versions of "Goin' Way Blues" and "Torchin'," are all blues. McLean teams up with the fiery young trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Pete La Roca for diverse originals by the leader, Drew, and Hubbard that all have the feeling (if not always the exact structure) of the blues. The variety of tempos, moods, and styles makes this a highly recommended set. Cduniverse.com: BLUESNIK is a play on words; by riffing on the appellation "beatnik"--the term used to describe the Bohemian intellectuals of the 1950s--saxophonist Jackie McLean and his group are making a philosophical statement of the! ir own with this '61 album. Here they tip their hats to the blues, which is the backbone of all jazz. Most of these pieces are in major keys, but the two minor-key blues numbers "Drew's Blues" and "Cool Green" round out the set nicely, giving this record some musical legroom. As always, McLean shines throughout, and his band, featuring many hard-bop all-stars, keeps pace on each of the eight tracks. Trumpet legend Freddie Hubbard adds fire to the proceedings, as does the nimble pianist Kenny Drew. "Torchin'" is the quintessential blues here, given its groovy, down-home flavor. However, it is the upbeat title track that adds just the right spice to this classic Blue Note release. Thebebopshop.com: The second great McLean record after 'New Soil' and 19 months on he turns his alto to a celebration of the blues in collaboration with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and a rhythm section of Kenny Drew, Doug Watkins and, once again, drummer Pete La Roca. The title track is a dashing, hig! h-energy workout featuring one of the leader's finest and most! logical solos to date. The other tracks are moving and intriguing blues-based essays, two by pianist Drew who reveals himself as a most lyrical and sympathetic accompanist. A delight. Personnel: Jackie McLean - Sax (Alto) Kenny Drew - Piano Pete La Roca - Drums Doug Watkins - Bass Freddie Hubbard - Trumpet Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on January 8, 1961. Yusef Lateef - Jazz Mood (1957) MP3 ~ 320kbps ~ RS.com ~ 79mb ~ Cover ~ 5% File Recovery Genre: Jazz / hard bop Label: Savoy Time: 38:00 Yusef Lateef recorded 6 LPs for the Savoy label in 1957 and 1959; this is the first one issued. Lateef and his group were playing in Detroit at the time, and they would drive into NY, record a slew of sides (sometimes for competing labels), and then hightail it back to Detroit again. He wasn't offered a club appearance in NYC until 1959. Yusef was pretty much a mainstream modern player when these recordings were made, though occasionally he would try something "experimental" (usually involving an incorporation of ethnic music into his program). Flute was his only other axe besides his tenor, and he plays it once here, on METAPHOR. Better is his tenor work - for example, on the medium blues YUSEF'S MOOD. Lateef is an excellent blues player, sticking to the lower register to great effect. MORNING and THE BEGINNING both are based on repeated ! one-note patterns, with the latter piece being slightly better. Curtis Fuller is on trombone and brings with him his characteristic muddy tone. Hugh Lawson is excellent on piano. A good CD, worth checking out. - Amazon reviewer Personnel: Yusef Lateef - flute, tenor sax, sc[CENSORED]r, argol Curtis Fuller - trombone Hugh Lawson - piano Ernie Farrow - bass Louis Hayes - drums Doug Watkins - percussion Tracks: 1.
